Young Dutch architect Ramon Knoester set up his architecture firm WHIM five years ago and has recently completed Villa BH; an environmentally friendly house characterised by a remarkable experience of space, light and natural context.
The clients for the villa were an older couple, and so to optimise the accessibility of the house, the entire program is ground floor and arranged around a patio.
It's the patio which is key to the character of the house, widening and narrowing at certain points creating a variety of living spaces. Also, the façade of the patio is fabricated completely from glass panels, giving the villa great perspectives from within its airy open-plan interior - but this also allows views outwards towards the context, bringing the outside in.
Adding to the atmosphere of light and space is a high sloped ceiling in the the living area. By lifting the roof in this part of the house, perspectives are magnified; both all of the different areas inside the house and out to the existing treetops that give this plot its specific feel.
So with the villa itself finished, the only thing left to do is the landscaping, which Knoester also designed for the property.
And since you can't rush nature, Knoester hopes to have the gardens accompanying this sunny home completed by the end of this year.
