SUMMER CAMP

Villa Mecklin by Finnish practice Huttunen-Lipasti-Pakkanen Architects is a bit of a dream retreat.

Located in the tranquility of the Finnish archipelago, the 70 metre square villa sits on stilts in a small depression in the rocks of the shoreline, with a sheltered terrace extending over the summit of the rock.

Inside there is a minimal, open plan living, kitchen dining area which fronts on to the extended deck outside; where there is also a sunken open fire pit for huddling around when the sun goes down.

Toasted marshmellow heaven.

There is also a twenty metre square shoreline sauna, and a stove-heated cabin for guests.

Constructed from uncontrived, basic materials, perfectly suited for the archipelago region, all the wood surfaces have been left untreated and will turn a slivery grey with time.
