KOOLHAAS HOUSELIFE

A documentary about cleaning an architectural masterpiece

It recently premiered at the Barbican in London as part of their partnership with The Architecture Foundation and we love this idea.

The film Koolhaas HouseLife is a documentary made by filmmakers Ila Beka and Louise Lemoine who decided to film Maison a Bordeaux, the 1998 landmark house that Rem Koolhaas built for a man who was left confined to a wheelchair after a near-fatal car accident. And the stars of the the show turn out to be, not suprisingly, Koolhaas' architecture, but also (more suprisingly) Guadalupe Acede, the cleaner of the house who reveals a different side to the Dutch architect's project.

As you watch her cleaning routine, Guadalupe’s honest statements force you to probe and question the concrete practicalities of the house whilst simultaneously marvelling at its grandiose mechanics.
