There's a lot of excellent underwater photography out there, but this body of work by Wayne Levin truly took our breath away.

Ever since his father gave him a small camera and developing kit for his 12th birthday, Levin has been hooked on capturing the natural world. Ethereal, and mysterious, these black and white images variously record divers, swimmers, whales, and rays (amongst other subjects) both on the surface of, and underneath the waves.

We've only included a tiny selection here, but Levin's website is a rather comprehensive archive of incredible photographs he's taken of this strange realm.
