PLACE AND PATTERN

Awe-inspiring in their detail and colour, an exhibition of Paula Scher's painstaking map series is currently on at Stendhal Gallery in New York and will run until March the 27th.

Named “the grand dame” of Design by The New York Times, Scher's large-scale map paintings have generated a fresh dialogue in the crossover of design and fine art, and have sparked an interest in cartographic subject matter among artists and institutions.

The Victoria & Albert Museum in London has recently acquired the “NYC Transit” screenprint for their permanent collection - a wise move - these pieces are destined to become serious collectors items in years to come.
