SHE BY BOJAN SARCEVIC

Currently on view as part of the exhibition 'Silence and Time' at the Dallas Museum of Art is 'She', a 1.7-ton onyx sculpture by Bosnian artist Bojan Šarčević.

The exhibition theme was inspired by American artist John Cage’s 1952 composition 4’33".

Šarčević's precisely worked sculpture with its rectangular, square cut shapes and cavities, suggests a semi-functional form: a hybrid of architecture, sculpture, and installation.

The breathtaking, monumental stone, apparently came from the Silk Route city of Yazd in central Iran, and was transported by road to the UK where it was worked.

The interplay of shape and man-made geometry effects reveal a constant reflection on sculptural tensions: fragility and resilience, weight and gravity, shape and texture, geometric and organic form, and organic and mineral flesh.

'She' will remain on view all summer until August the 28th, 2011.
