CATWALK REPORT: PARIS

Valentino's newly appointed designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, presented a ready-to-wear collection bound to please the couture house's regular customers. The pair, former accessories designers under Mr. Valentino, largely went with pleated cocktail dresses, silky texures and Liz Hurley friendly split-to-the-thigh evening gowns in inky blacks, plums and emeralds, with of course, a splash of signature Valentino crimson. There was a little here too for a younger buyer - the diamante edged boxy jacket and wide satin pants had potential for an element of retro rock glamour, as did a fur trimmed coat. However, by and large, it was a refined, classy affair; which is exactly what we've always looked to Valentino for.
