M.E. puts our Milan Furniture Fair questions to Desalto...
What have you been working on recently? Would you be able to give us any sneak previews of new projects you might be showing at Milan this year?
We are working as usual to propose design products with a growing up attention in sostenibility process. In this direction, we'll present at the Salone a new chair: 288 in 100% recyclable nylon.
What does exhibiting at the Salone del Mobile mean for you? How would you describe the positives (and maybe negatives?) of the experience?
Salone in Milano has proved to be the most important furniture exhibition in the world. We work during the year preparing this appointment and this is positive and great - it spurs us on to work and to do our best.
We're sorry, it has to be asked - How do you think the current economic situation will affect the climate in the design world, and particularly this year's Milan Salone? Do you foresee any positive or negative knock on effects or adaptations that might happen as a result?
The current economic situation will maybe slow down the production, but will not stop it for sure. The quality and the excellence of our products, the effort we put into researching new technologies and new materials we hope, will continue to distinguish 'Made in Italy' globally.
Do you have any predictions for trends in design this year?
Simple and honest products. Good design/good price, this is the trend. Because of the crisis, people are prudent and want to spend money for the right reasons.
Is there anything you're especially looking forward to at this year's Salone? Can you let us in on the stands you'll be checking out for yourself/selves or new names to watch?
We are looking forward to seeing how many people and especially which kind of people will visit the Salone this year. A new name to watch: Italian designer Marco Acerbis, who designed the innovative extensible table Atlantide. (See our earlier article about Atlantide here - M.E.) And Maltese Gordon Guillaumier, from your country.
And of course, its not all work! Where do you think this year's best Salone party will be?
On April 24th at the headquarters of the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore - beautiful architecture projected by Renzo Piano - in the auditorium there will be a very interesting talk show with trend forecaster Li Edelkoort. Then there will be a party in the big hall where people can relax sitting on several Kloe armchairs from Desalto...
