MAKING A SPLASH

Leather is not normally a material you'd associate with Spring, or Summer; and black isn't really a colour you'd naturally assume would be one to reach for during the warmer months, but there was plenty of both at Elise Øverland's New York Fashion Week debut.

The collection was dark, and leathery - but that barely mattered since these more wintry pieces were balanced with much of interest and the former seemed likely candidates to end up in many a stylist's run-to case or on a party girl's back.

There were beiges, browns, leopard prints and splashes of bright orange - even a few shiny gold metallics. But the gorgeous shapes, the detailing, (panels, high necks and bare backs) and the rock and roll attitude of these clothes made the collection stand out despite any doubts about temperature practicality.

There were elements here that you'd absolutely want to wear all year round anyway.
