LAYER CAKE

With his reference book packed with all sorts of unlikely inspiration (as usual) Nicolas Ghesquière presented a bright, complex collection in Paris for A/W 2010.

Apparently, 70s formica, packaging, biscuits and cosmonauts were the starting points for the designer - highly unusual fashion inspirations - but the way these elements were manipulated into something fresh, contemporary and utterly optimistic was a marvel.

Running against the tide of trends has always been Ghesquière's thing, preferring to experiment with fabric and form, and we adored the layering, panelling, quilting and punches of colour in this collection.

We'll just leave you to look - and it'll take more than one glance since the details here are myriad and wondrous.

One last thing. The shoes.
