COPENHAGEN PERSONIFIED

If design firm Normann Copenhagen were going to launch the most 'Copenhagen-y' thing possible, it would probably be a faintly retro, minimal bicycle.

And now they've done exactly that.

The Normann Copenhagen Bike was launched last month at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan, and has a classic 50s inspired lightness hightlighted with flashes of green.

The frame is neither shiny nor dull, but has an elegant smooth anthracite grey finish, while the chain, saddle and handlebars are green. It has been designed for the man who actively chooses to cycle along beside the Copenhagen lakes, or cycle home after enjoying an event in the city's vibrant social life. It is comfortable to ride, thanks to its single-speed gearbox and is ideal for city use.

It's designer, Anne Lehmann says:

”Normann Copenhagen is all about lifestyle, and cycling is a natural part of the Danish lifestyle, especially in Copenhagen, where it is easy to get around on bike. At first glance, the Normann Copenhagen Bike, with its simple frame and understated appearance, does not attract attention in use, but the green details in the saddle, handlebars and chain provide a surprising element, that make it stand out in a crowd.”

Poul Madsen, CEO at Normann Copenhagen is equally pleased with it:

”For us at Normann Copenhagen it is all about developing our company, that is what makes it so interesting and fun. We aren't going to make any money from manufacturing bicycles, but Jan and I thought that it would be fun to build a bike the way we wanted to build one - and the result was the Normann Copenhagen Bike, designed by Anne Lehmann. To begin with we will build 50 Bikes."

So only 50 of these hand-built beauties are planned for now - and you can get your mitts on one from October of this year from their flagship store or online.

However we can't help but notice that this design is a men's bike.

Here's hoping that they eventually do a ladies version too...
