The 7th edition of DMY International Design Festival kicks off today in Berlin with the tagline “Same same, but different” and M.E. will be reporting on the highlights right here from tomorrow.
Showcasing works by internationally acclaimed designers as well as revealing prototypes by young talent, DMY Berlin this year will focus on design that makes a difference. Presenting three huge main exhibition zones next to a varied program of lectures, panel talks, performances and parties the festival itself tries to change the city at least for five days. The event, part festival, part exhibition, part design fair, is a curated event bringing together the finest of innovative product design today. It's participants are selected amongst the numerous applicants by recommendation of an international admission jury.
The jury members are also responsible for awarding outstanding up and coming designers among the exhibitors of the DMY Youngsters platform. This year’s jury consists of internationally renowned personalities from the fields of design, art and science who have chosen Berlin as their new home and working environment underlining the strong creative energy of this city and include Jurgen Bey, BLESS, Jürgen Mayer H., Jerszy Seymour, and Kyoka.

Zero” (zero inch) is a digital record store featuring Electronic Music and related Hip-Hop, Jazz and Dub who have their headquarters in Vienna, Austria and an outpost in Berlin. Redshape (Present, Delsin Records) will be headlining the 2009 Klublabor opening night with a live performance, alongside TIN (The Memory Foundation, Hi-Lo, Central), DJ Glow (Trust, Zero”), Kokotronic (Shaddok, Zero”) and Tibcurl (Icke Micke). Furthermore, every attendee of the Klublabor opening night will receive a free video compilation, including videos from artists of the DMY International Design Festival such as Funckarma and Contentismissing, and an exclusive unreleased track from Hi-Lo, to be redeemed from Zero” with a download code printed on the entry wristband.
