BALKAN CHARM

One never looks to Galliano for minimalism, and the designer boldly went with his signature theatricality for the upcoming season. Inspired by Balkan folklore in the same vein as Lagerfeld was for Chanel's Paris Mouscou show earlier in the year, we loved this dramatic display of inventive costuming.

Epic embroidery, full skirts, lavish headgear and a full-on catwalk snowstorm transported this show into the realms of fantasy, eschewing the inky tones most designers opted for for A/W 09, and instead, leaning towards rich reds and icy silvers. No doubt much research had gone into this collection and workmanship too - barely a inch was free from ornament - and although Galliano strayed from the pack, we think this eastern extravaganza will present inspiration for a sumptuous alternative for fashion fans tired of 80s, leather and masculine tailoring.
