The couture shows have begun, and surprisingly for John Galliano, Christian Dior Couture which showed in Paris yesterday was rather restrained. Despite all the underwear on show. Actually, because of the underwear; since the designer looked to the corsets, waist cinchers and the shaping garments of yesteryear as the basis for his collection for Fall 2009.
The designer also returned to the golden days of the house (even in terms of location, showcasing it at the Dior Headquarters in Avenue Montaigne) with a decidedly New Look sillhouette mixed with a little femme fatale from the 50s silver screen.
Although perfectly constructed, we think the collection was a little safe, (but those neat fitted jackets will most likely a hit with traditional couture clients) yet the bright hues, animal print, out-sized headgear and Joan Crawford make-up gave it a glamourous edge.
