THE MODERN ECLECTIC

Marni was all about ease and fluidity this season - and eclecticism - presenting a collection that incorporated natural and treated fabrics, solid colours and polychrome designs, geometric and floral patterns. Texures were all chucked in together with silk, cotton, linen and even paper pressed onto fine organza. And then embellished. Wildly.

Jacquard and devoré, embroideries with veiled and covered stones and suede stencil cut-out motifs, printed stripes, checksandpolkadots, flowersprintedontulleand lurextweed... (breathe) it was all very, well, Marni.

M.E. liked the flowyness of it all, evidenced by feather-light dresses, jackets and dustcoats which looked like just the thing to sling on in hot sticky temperatures. The soft moving forms of chemisiers and blouses that slipped and fell on the the body were some of our favourite pieces.

Unifying mish mash of it all was the jewellery; big petal earrings in oxidised horn, wood and crystal stones or leather flowers like golden-edged parchment - which again, was another signature Marni thing, and a style tip we'll be copying next Summer for sure.

There was one worrying element though in the form of gold and black suede deco-esque sandals with tiny resin heels. We liked them, and thought they were pretty, but dearly hope that this doesn't signal the return of the kitten heel...
