Vanessa Bruno is the sort of fashion designer who doesn't tend to come out with awe-inspiring collections. She has none of the wild showmanship of Galliano, or the aesthetic extremity of Margiela and McQueen.
This, however, does not make her a less good designer.
Vanessa Bruno specialises in making things we want go out and buy and wear. Which is actually a pretty tough thing to do.
Additionally, to wear most of Bruno's designs, you don't necessarily need the bank balance of a Greek shipping tycoon, nor the body of a Greek goddess, and we love her dearly for the classy, feminine, everyday pieces she makes season after season that rarely date.
Lou Doillon has made a short film with her which you can currently see on the Vanessa Bruno website, showcasing the A/W 09 collection - and what's cool enough for Birkin offspring is definitely cool enough for us.
So for S/S 2010, she gave us a sweet, vintage inspired collection full of little lingerie type slip tops, handy cropped jackets and pretty sundresses. The catwalk styling was cute, and something her younger more trend-led audience might ape, (lace knee bands) but most elements of the rest of it would slide seamlessly next to stuff you already own.
To sum up; not an earth-shattering high fashion show full of drama and directionalism - but then those sorts of clothes never end up in the 'favourites' section of your wardrobe do they?
