London Fashion Week is traditionally the one where the brightest, maddest, boldest, most creative collections get shown, but Richard Nicoll, in contrast, gave us something to wear for winter 2010.
There were one or two slightly awkward silhouettes in a largely elegant presentation (offender No. 1; the medieval-inspired gown with a bulldog clip at the shoulder) but as a whole, there was much, nay, loads, here to swoon over.
Nicoll's muted, but somehow also equally strong colour choices of tomato red, grey, taupe and a beautiful blue seemed fresh and refined, and the mixes of fabrics - velvet, chiffon and woollens - were supremely luxurious without being crass.
From short to long, dresses were carefully detailed with the same 'just a little, not too much' attitude and the printed graphic t-shirts kept the look informal yet still work appropriate. This collection was actually, largely just that; work appropriate, but a million miles from the corporate ball-buster or cartoonish secretary look.
Nice job Sir. We're expecting this one to fly off the hangers.
