Doyenne of casual good taste, Margaret Howell has ticked all our boxes for hassle-free summer chic with her S/S 2010 collection for women. Whilst all around her, designers jump on trend bandwagons, Margaret sticks to her guns, and those trademark clean, unfussy lines.

For the new season, everyday classics are all present and correct - the perfect, slightly crumpled shirt, the slouch blazer, the loose-fit cotton trouser. Even the slightly oversize trench is included in a tasteful khaki with nicely squared patch pockets.

Howell has always been an advocate of borrowing talioring from the boys, but somehow always manages to twist that masculine starting point into a collection that is anything but butch.

Helped by a beautifully shot lookbook by Venetia Scott featuring feline beauty Kim Noorda, it's a sort of off-duty Lauren Bacall/Charlotte Gainsbourg sort of collection that retains a quiet femininity in the form of practical, versatile pieces.

"People comment if you wear something in a nice fabric. No matter how simple it is, they notice it." Howell has said in a recent interview with Britain's Daily Telegraph. We think her latest collection unequivocally proves that if you want to be noticed, you don't necessarily have to shout.
