IN BOLD

Plumping for strong hues and iconic prints, Riccardo Tisci showed us exactly what can be achieved when restraint meets ingenuity in Givenchy's Resort 2011 collection.

Informally presented, these pieces showed continuation in terms of Tisci's motifs (the slightly gothic, even religious bent to his work; those technical jackets) but also the adoption of a rather unlikely print - leopard.

Referencing Frida Kahlo and a kind of animistic glamour, this bold pattern sat against fresh white and blood red, with floor length gowns; sheer from the thigh down, balancing an otherwise very narrowly tailored collection.

Lace panels and ruffles on some pieces served up the romance and femininity, yet neat little suits in black and red added unequivocally masculine elements.

The designer's bold signature was, as ever, in plain view here.

And it never fails to impress.
