KENZO SPRING 2011

Like Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, Antonio Marras also eschewed any notion of Spring's minimalist leanings in his collection for Kenzo in Paris.

A bright but surprisingly gentle combination of ice cream colours met in swaddled forms that felt youthful and playful - combining new pieces with a mix of pieces from the label's archive - intended to celebrate the house's 40th anniversary this year.

Also like Jacobs, Marras went for an Eastern theme, but it was the nationality of the label's founder that provided the basis for the collection; deconstructed Kimono shapes, chrysanthemum prints, and even towards the end of the presentation a faintly Samurai feeling popped up.

Not for everyone (fans of body-con, the gothic, or minimalists may not dig this for obvious reasons) but it had a sincere charm that makes us cross our fingers and hope for another 40 years of Kenzo.
