ALTUZARRA FALL 2011

Joseph Altuzurra showed a bit of a glamorous grunge revival for Fall 2011 in New York this week.

Floor length silky bias gowns, sheers, sparkling details and furs added the glamour (not to mention those berry red lips too) but the lace up boots, chunky oversize knits and leather pieces ensured this collection is actually pretty darn suitable for the season it was designed for.

That is, it'll actually keep you quite warm.

There were some beautifully cut examples of outerwear, which demonstrated Altuzarra didn't just rely on the 'sling a parka over a frock' approach, and a fantastic black leather shirtdress cemented this for us.

Suprisingly too, despite the youth associations with the designer's chosen 90s theme, the ensembles were sophisticated, pulled-together and ultimately, fit for grown-ups.

In sum, a luxury spin on a very wearable aesthetic which proved with finesse that grunge needn't be grotty.
