Where Hannah MacGibbon appeared to be beginning to phase out the beige and taupe at Chloe, the house of Valentino seems to be running with the theme, showing a collection full of it in Paris recently.
Creamy tones, highlighted by flashes of navy, chocolate and emerald green (the latter in the form of a fabulously cut leather trench) are Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli's A/W 2011 preoccupation.
A liitle 70s in terms of shapes and lengths, we loved the sheers and lace that the designers managed to incorporate without descending into frou frou territory, and the recurring motif of appliqued grid patterns sharpened things up considerably.
This latest collection erred on the side of glamorous daywear rather than the trademark red gowns the brand was built on; an approach which, judging by the front row containing the likes of Alexa Chung and Juila Restoin-Roitfeld, appears to be winning over legions of younger fans.
