Wool in summer? 'Madness' you might say.
We say no, check this out.
M.E. has fallen for Faroese label Guðrun & Guðrun's ultra-light dress, carefully crafted in soft cotton tulle with knitted details.
We'd not heard of Guðrun & Guðrun until very recently, and after being tipped off by a Faroese native, we spent a good portion of this morning lost in a tangle of wool.
The brand is owned by two Faroese women who employ an admirable approach to fashion design.
Using organic yarns, and battery of knitters who create garments by hand, (all the hand-knitted items are produced on the Faroe Islands or in Jordan, as part of their Women Empowerment project) most pieces are created to order, so this isn't fast fashion for the impatient.
With a range that encompasses classic Faroese patterns, to minimal modern basics, to some incredibly avant-garde haute pieces, we'd say they've got everything covered; including shoes crafted in fish skin and lambskin accessories to boot.
Apparently the creative process of design is very closely linked to the isolation of their home for Guðrun & Guðrun:
“It’s good to come to Europe for input and inspiration, but it’s crucial to come back home to the silence and not be disturbed by the hectic life of fashion.” say the duo.
