Frida Giannini looked to the age of Art Deco for her Gucci Spring 2012 collection in Milan; and it was a stunner.
The Gucci house will be 90 this year, and celebrating in style with the opening of a new Gucci Museo in Florence tomorrow, but there was much to celebrate on the catwalk in terms of a brand new collection too.
We adored all the gold embellishments on a parade of perfectly gilded jackets, and the uber-sophisticated colour choices of emerald, deep orange, black and gold, intricately set together in striking graphic ensembles.
However, aside from all this, it was those flapper-esque dresses which shone (literally) as the key pieces from a collection bristling with a contemporary take on the sharp architectural lines of the jazz age.
Under Giannini's direction, we'd say that Gucci's future as a creative luxury powerhouse is assured.
