Graphic, modern and elegant, take a look at young Brazilian designer Barbara Casasola's vision for Summer 2012.

Casasola, who studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins in London and the Istituto Marangoni in Milan, began her career as First Assistant Designer at Cavalli, moved to Paris in January 2010 to work with Gabriele Greiss, and has since worked on assignments for Lanvin (including the S/S 2011 catwalk show) and See by Chloe.

It's an impressive start in anyone's book, but equally impressive is the sophistication of this second collection designed for her own label, Barbara Casasola.

Characterised by long monochromatic dresses and block-colour pleated gowns - a theme drawn primarily from monastic lines - it's Casasola's underlying intricate pattern work which drives an appearance of simplicity.

We love the colour choices particularly, where signature hand-dyed foundation-nudes have been blended with washed accents consisting of monk-yellow, terracotta and inky black.

Fabric-wise, crepes, pleated georgette and pure silks provide the raw material for Casasola's intelligent contemporary drapery which posesses a luxurious edge in the cut - many of the dresses consist of single swathes of fabric and side-seams have been entirely dispensed with.

Exposed zippers, square shoulder pads and darts balance the long-line ceremonial aesthetic with functional details.

And the result?

A beautifully modern mix of restraint and movement, formality and femininity, with each piece in the collection containing a stand-out detail to reward both the wearer and the eye of the beholder.
