HOUSE OF LETTERS

All too often we see beautiful old signage being torn down to make way for bland new corporate logos, but where does it go? Most of the time, sadly, on the scrap heap - but not in Berlin...

Since 2005, the Buchstabenmuseum (The Museum of Letters organization) has been rushing to the rescue and collecting these typographic icons, installing them in their own premises at 49 Leipziger Straße. Today, the Buchstabenmuseum preserves an immense collection of shop sign letters not just from from all over Berlin, but abroad too. Visits are by appointment only, but for typographic geeks a trip to this museum is a little slice of heaven.
