The work of graphic designer Katy Scott work can be described as systematic, logical and succinct to say the least. With a strong emphasis on 'process' she uses systems and rules to communicate and amplify her concepts; an approach which has resulted in some beautiful documentary print work.
A four day walk along the shore of the river Thames provided Scott with all the material she needed to produce this book entitled 'A Journey by Restriction'.
Her idea was to allow the natural landscape, the weather, and the movement of tide to determine the path to take, and along the way, she took a diary recording what she saw, drew maps and also collected small items washed up along the banks. Katy also produced a 'zine with a synopsis of the the story to which she attached a walk 'souvenir'.
Additionally, the walk also inspired another connected photography piece - 'Stories Uncovered by the Tide'.
Finding herself passing the same landmarks at high and low tide, Katy was fascinated by the extremes of the same locations at different times of the day. This booklet features some great shots of London's shoreline that reveal the secrets hidden by the ebb and flow of the capital's great river, captured by a wonderfully meticulous eye.
