Young designer Sebastian Herkner will be presenting this new work, the Tauber-Cabinet, at the [D3] Contest during the IMM Cologne event a little later this month.
The rather unusual inspiration behind the piece is based on the idea of ventilation shaft coverings, which has resulted in a bold design inhabiting the space somewhere between bench and sideboard.
Herkner's Tauber-Cabinet is constructed largely of metal, and the diagonal bends of the brass plate are cleverly both decorative and structural. Wooden elements soften the hard lines of a faintly industrial typography, and are integrated by reflection.
