COLOURBLOCKING

Quite possibly the nicest use of coloured glass we've seen in a while, this.

It's the outcome of a collaboration between graphic designer Peter Saville and architect David Adjaye who were charged with creating a new London showroom for Danish fabric producers Kvadrat, which opened it's doors last week.  Although we've seen enough gaudy applications of coloured glass to almost put us off for life, we love this rainbow-hued staircase, which is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional architectural focal point. Although minimal, the space retains a warmth due to the shots of coulour injected by the glass banister, and is the perfect platform to showcase Kvadrat's distinctive soft furnishings.

Kvadra is also set to open another showroom in Copenhagen, designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, next month. We can't wait to see it, but this is going to be hard to top...
