When contemporary taste meets traditional architecture, it can often be a beautiful marriage; which is exactly what has happened in this 19th century tenement block thanks to the work of Berlinrodeo.

The apartment, designed by for a young art collector, is located in Berlin Tiergarten by the river Spree and is around 260 square metres in size. Faced with challenge of transforming an older apartment into a contemporary space is difficult enough, but the practice also had to take into account the client's need for plenty of space to accommodate an art collection. The results showcase a perfect balance of respecting the Wilhelminian-era structure whilst simulaneously including unexpected modern luxury features such as an oversized bathtub.

Berlinrodeo was set up in 2005 by Axel Schäfer and undertakes a wide variety of design work requiring unusual contemporary solutions for residential, retail and hospitality clients.
