MORE PLEATS PLEASE

Fashion icon Issey Miyake has just reopened his "Pleats Please' boutique in Aoyama, Tokyo with a fresh new look courtesy of designer Tokujin Yoshioka.

The re-design was carried out based on conserving the existing of interior, also previously created by Yoshioka using recycled aluminum material initially developed as an auto-part.

"Issey Miyake's conception is to reincarnate the space as "PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE / AOYAMA" by conserving the existing space with recycled aluminum in order to have it transcend the time. My proposal to his conception was to use a huge lighting wall. The lighting wall serves to accentuate the nature of the material and interfuses modern technology and light". said Yoshioka of the new look.

M.E. thinks this beautifully austere and minimal space acts as a perfect foil for Miyake's colourful fashion creations. A little bit industrial mixed with a touch of Bond villain research lab equals fashion heaven for the purists out there.
