ON THE VINE

If you're already thinking of skipping away after the New Year to recover from festive stress, then consider the Hotel Vine, located in the heart of Funchal, Madeira’s charming and picturesque capital.

Although the hotel stands near the town’s historic centre, cathedral, and harbour, you may actually never want to step outside thanks to a sumptuous, yet simple interior created by Portuguese studio Atelier Nini Andrade Silva.

A shortlisted project at the recent World Architecture Festival Awards, and winner of Best Interior at the European Hotel Design Awards, The Vine's generous space and pared-down sophistication is built around a central theme: Madeira wine.

This is reflected in every little detail of the hotel. The Terra lounge features woods taken from vineyards, and grey, green, purple and brown are the dominating colours representing the four different seasons and the maturation of a grape throughout the year.

The calming luxury of the place seems just the thing for a post-Chrismas detox; but on the other hand, maybe not, as the hotel's wine theme even extends to a 'Vinotherapy' Spa.

Although we do presume vino therapy doesn't just consist of consuming vino.

(Which is exactly what we plan on doing today - Merry Christmas!)
