The model of Tas-Sellum apartments in Mellieha is becoming a common sight on the island – gated complexes, underground parking, lifts, entry systems… Modern, easy living.
Rather refreshingly, Tas-Sellum is also the site of a recently completed conversion by architect Chris Briffa and Auntie Lucy Contracts, a conversion which, despite its unflinching luxury and modernity, comes as a welcome intrusion on the normal model.
Only when you look at the plan can you appreciate just how significantly the apartment has been changed from the original, walls were replaced by beams which were in turn concealed through the clever application of soffits and units doubling as both concealing and storing devices.
The project has a pervading air of quality, the finishes used, the fixtures and lighting, right down to the furniture – each one a signature piece. The kitchen is a freestanding installation from Arclinea allowing maximum movement around what would be an otherwise limited space, and the living area features furniture from B&B Italia, including Patricia Urquiola’s Fat Fat tables.
