Swarovski Crystal Palace will launch ‘Cloudeliers’ by Nigel Coates and exhibit highlights from the Swarovski Crystal Palace collection at Euroluce, Milan as part of the 2009 Salone del Mobile.
Nigel Coates has adapted his installation of crystal forms that was originally shown at the 11th Venice Biennale for Architecture in 2008, to create ‘Cloudeliers’, a dramatic installation of Swarovski crystal lighting. Cloudeliers incorporate specially designed Swarovski crystal cut by Coates, and when grouped together the Cloudeliers form a sparkling layer of cloud-shaped crystal.
As we've come to expect from Swarovski, this year's affair will be nothing less than full-on glamour, as the Swarovski Crystal Palace will also be showing Swarovski’s cascading crystal curtain, which was designed by David Rockwell for this year’s Oscar ceremony. The three-ton, 60-foot tall custom designed Swarovski crystal curtain sparkles with over 100,000 crystals and was flown in especially from Austria for the Academy Awards. Swarovski’s illuminating tapestry of cascading crystal and light served as backdrop for Oscar host Hugh Jackman in addition to some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and helped redefine this year’s Oscar experience with more of an elegant party feel.
