Casamania will be launching their new collection in full at the Salone del Mobile in Milan soon, but here's a trio of pieces to whet your appetite.

For 2010, the Italian firm have put together an eclectic collection characterised by materials; technical materials like polycarbonate and aluminium will sit alongside warm and traditional materials like timber and wool.

First up is 'Poliart', designed by Luca Nichetto. Nichetto's family of quirky coffee tables have been created with the idea of culture sharing; to promote an understanding of geography and the traditions of four of Europe’s cities: Paris, Barcelona, Venice and Istanbul.

The base of each table supports a table top with a stylised map of the city and the colours used are evocative of the signature dish which characterises culinary traditions. Essentially bright, fun, and kind of educational...

Next up is 'Abarth', designed by Fabio Novembre in collaboration with Casamania and Vivi and inspired by racing cars; transforming key elements drawn from mean speed machines into a chair. The result is a light but distinctive seat with a reverse cantilever base and a modern and sporty silhouette. The world of car racing is also present in Novembre's choice of the materials; polycarbonate and aluminium.

And last but not least is 'Bloom' - a mimimal and elegant bookshelf designed for Casamania by Giulio Iachetti.

We like the inspiration behind the Bloom bookshelf, which according to Casamania, comes directly from the natural world, in particular the idea of the ‘bud’ which allows 'Bloom' to blossom forth - grow and multiply.

Traditionally the term ‘bookshelf’ implies a static form created for storage (of books, magazines, folders, papers or objects) but in 'Bloom' the meaning is slightly shifted towards the idea of an ‘evolving system’ made up of constantly growing memories.
