ATLANTIDE TABLE BY MARCO ACERBIS

ATLANTIDE TABLE BY MARCO ACERBIS

Designed by Marco Acerbis for Desalto, 'Atlantide' is the first table in the world that’s extendible diagonally.

Acerbis started the year with a splash, winning a Red Dot award for his 'Kloe' armchair exhibited at last year's Salone del Mobile, and we suspect he's onto another winner with this table design.

It's a simple idea, but a small evolution that equals a small revolution. This technical innovation increases functionality, but what is most impressive, is that the piece is remarkably aesthetically complete, both when open and closed.

The diagonal cut enhances the top with an element that is not concealed, but rather is expressed in all it's force and explodes before the observer’s eyes when the table is opened and the top is extended. The central part suddenly becomes hinged, to then stretch out completely naturally, finally returning to being perfectly coplanar.

The table has an aluminium structure, whereas the tops will have different finishes, making it possible to play on these to create highly effective colour combinations.

You'll be able to see it in action at the Desalto stand in Milan at the end of this month...
