Designer Stephanie Jasny's Cordula floor lamp is inspired by objects used on construction sites. Not a usual starting point perhaps, but we think this kind of honest simplicity in design is often much more far-reaching than an affected minimalism which we see over and over again these days. Her aim was to take an object from the construction site into the sitting room without denying its origin, and the result is a strangely familiar crossbreed of a spotlight and a cable reel which makes the jump very easily indeed. Ten metres of cable allow distant positioning from the power socket and armed with an additional pivot-joint, Cordula can be rotated 90 degrees.
