An axe is something that we, here at M.E. would probably get limited actual use out of, but we couldn't help but feature this fantastic company based in New York City who create and sell axes that are rather more than a cut above the rest.

Best Made Co. are quite possibly the best tool company we've ever seen, crafting all their axes to order, with heads of fine-grain steel and handles made of Tennessee Hickory.

Each one is hand-painted, varnished, and polished in downtown Manhattan with a level of love, care and attention that astounded us when we delved into their website, that not only details their mission statement, but also includes an inspiration section of images for their colourways.

Drawing pattern and colour from disparate and beautiful imagery, (this Fall: Marilyn Monroe, naval flags, lighthouses, vintage Chanel ads and luxury sweetshop displays...) Best Made are not only the best made for the job, but also the stuff of heirlooms.
