SHELL KNITS

It's a rather unusual technique, but designer Kristen Wicklund's recent work has produced some gorgeous results.

Here's a snapshot of her new collection of ceramics; crocheted cotton lace dipped in liquid porcelain.

After Wicklund dips the lace in porcelain, she fires it in a mold and during the firing the fibre burns out completely, leaving a hollow porcelain shell of lace.

Delicate and intricate, each one is one of a kind. Wicklund recently showed these pieces at The Greenwich House Pottery in Manhattan as part of a group show called "One More Than Five" -  and pieces will be up for sale in the next few days.

We say keep an eye on her site for news if you want to get your mitts on one.
