Lindsey Adelman has come up with this beautiful candelabra, inspired by a rather unusual heroine.

The lady in question is a woman called Agnes who defyed the expected roles as wife and mother during the 1849 American Gold Rush and instead chose independence in the 'world's oldest profession' - making herself an absolute fortune in the process.

The modular system of the candelabra allows 'Agnes' to take it apart for easy traveling and to assemble and hang, plus the design can also be customised from 3 candle-holders to 20. To accompany the piece, Lindsey has also created precious accessories to match, including a handmade matchbox, a long match holder, (designed in collaboration with jeweller Christine Vasan) and a corresponding snuffer. 

It's available in satin brass, bronze, or 24k (!) gold.

We think Agnes would have plumped for the latter...
