'Design at the Threshold of Love' is the key concern of a rather racy exhibition set to be shown at the Salone del Mobile this year; devised by Slott gallery and Exquise Design who have invited four designers to play out their fantasies.
The show is called 'Preliminaries' and features some fascinating work by Arik Levy, Florence Jaffrain, Matali Crasset and Matthieu Lehanneur.
Levy has produced a wide range of objects; from furniture, to photographs, to er, vibrating 'sculptures' concerning the spoken and the unspoken of intimate relations with his series of installations entitled 'Confessions'.
Matthieu Lehanneur has created torrid yet petrified flames in his 'The Power of Love' piece - two separate sets of headphones connected to a golden fire. As three elements symbolising two lovers joined by their love in one object, it's representative sculpture, a type of lovemaking accessory, and as each of the lovers puts on a set of headphones the gesture in itself is a token.
The girls of the group, Matali Crasset and Florence Jaffrain both seem to evoke underwater paradises with their respective works; 'Aequorea', (kind of a jellyfish cage...) and the snuggly coral-esque 'Belly Love' sofa (which we've totally fallen for here at M.E.)
All in all, this looks like a great show. The boys will be showing their work at the Straf Hotel and the girls will be at the Acquario Civico di Milano; both in Milan from the 14th of April.
