This year's Salone saw Established & Sons presenting - amongst other things - their first collaboration with another firm.

The other partner in this venture is Murano glassware firm Venini, who initially attracted Established & Sons with their world famous techniques and use of colour.

Among the designers called in to explore the material of glass for the collection are Konstantin Grcic, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and Michael Eden, who all brought out the beauty of the medium through simple, yet very refined shapes.

Konstantin Grcic went for enlarged scale and deep colour in his glass table whilst utilising the traditional artisanal technique of blowing glass to create the base.

Michael Eden found inspiration for his Audrey lights and vase in Renato Giuseppe Bertelli’s sculpture 'Continuous Profile – Head of Mussolini' from 1933. All the pieces of his vase are individually hand-blown, either free-blown where the form is controlled by the skill of the blower or blown into moulds where more complex shapes are required.

'Lighthouse' by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec (See more of their Salone 2010 launches here) exposes the fragility of the medium. Their idea was to light up a voluminous round glass structure that would be supported by a delicate aluminum stick. They worked on the precariousness of the equilibrium: there is one and only, sharp point of contact, no fixation, as if the glass was in its original state, hanging insecurely from the blowing pipe.
