An exhibition of new work by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec has just opened at Galerie Kreo in Paris.

The Bouroullecs have had a long-standing relationship with the influential Parisian gallery; a relationship they describe as a "unique framework within which they can 'breathe' between other projects", and comparing their work there like using a sketch pad, researching free from the constraints imposed by industry and mass production.

This show of three projects for Kreo is about magic as much as use. 'Lianes', 'Conques' and 'Roches' are all, in their own way, suspended, interconnnected and integrated, whilst also 'cloaked' in some manner; evoking a sense of mystery by concealing joints and fixings.

The idea behind 'Lianes' was to incorporate and unify all the elements of a lamp; from the long cables, to the actual lit shell. In order to make this possible, the designers covered every single interrelated element with black or flesh-coloured leather – even the fixing points that allow the Lianes to be hung from the ceiling.

'Conque' is a wall light that can be either standing by itself thanks to a wireless system or that can be interconnected with other Conques. The extremely glossy black shell is meant to reflect the light as much as possible. The mystery comes from the fact that there is space between the wall and the actual light to give the impression of an intriguing flying object right in front of the wall.

'Roches' is a series of eight shelving units - ranging from 1.7m long down to 13.5cm long. These velvety (thanks to a special matt paint) and slightly alien 'mineral growths' are fixed to the wall by completely hidden means, hightening the idea of floating and of invisible 'tethers'.
