PORTABLE LOUNGING

Swedish designer and interior architect Katrin Greiling presented Hat-Hat as part of Wallpaper's exhibition at last month's Salone del Mobile - her new piece of furniture for both sitting and sleeping.

Greiling, who divides her time between Dubai and Stockholm drew inspiration from the Bedouin manner of furnishing their tents; using a camel saddle to recline against. The name 'Hat-hat', derives from the phrase the Bedouins use to get the camels to move.

”To live in a foreign culture presents fantastic opportunities to apply my own Scandinavian expression on the new, the result is unexpected design related discoveries and subjective interpretations” says Greiling.

So for those of us without a handy nearby camel saddle, Greiling developed a structure upholstered with soft fabric.

Over a stackable stool base, there is a mattress to be rolled over, offering both bed space and seating on each side. The mattress can be stored inside the stool base of a metal frame when not in use.

With summer on its way, we can see this being the perfect portable piece for lounging in parks or in your garden.
