Folklore and cultural tradition were the starting points for this unusual sideboard by Porto-based furniture brand Piurra.
According to Puirra, 'The Seven Skirts of Nazaré' is an old Portuguese tradition.
Fisherwomen still wear seven colourful layers of skirts, (which is clearly where the idea for their sideboard was derived) as well as wooden clogs and a predominantly black headscarf.
It is also said that they represent the seven days of the week, the seven colours in the rainbow, the seven waves in a set and many other biblical, mythical and magical attributions which involve the number seven.
The piece is just one of the designs Piurra will be showcasing at the upcoming Oporto Show - an event taking place from mid-June - which aims to provide a platform for contemporary Portuguese and international design.
Providing flexible stacking storage, the Seven Skirts module is available in several colours.
