Northern Europe has its fair share of classic chair designs thanks to names like Thonet and Wegner, but there are also pieces that have their place in history south of the Equator that we think deserve your attention this lunchtime.
One of these is the 'Globe Chair'.
Originally designed and patented in 1921, made in Durban until the early 1940’s; it's now back in production thanks to Cape Town design firm Haldane Martin.
"Its plain simplicity belies its real ingenuity; the unique bolt together assembly system." says studio founder Haldane Martin.
"I felt the chair deserved a second chance, and so I am putting it back into production, having made one small improvement - hiding the assembly bolts without compromising on the strength and offering it in a variety of contemporary finishes, from raw beech to brightly coloured spray finishes."
With an incredibly strong construction and a durable solid bent wood frame, the lifespan of this honest classic looks set to run and run.
