FOLDED

Los Angeles-based designer Brooke Woosley was in attendance at the ICFF earlier this month with her 'Oru' coffee table - a piece inspired by the art of paper folding.

Oru (pronounced 'ore ohh') and meaning to fold, was born out of a series of studies made in paper, basswood, chipboard, and even light.

Stepping up to the challenge of creating a dynamic piece of furniture from a flat sheet of material was a long and careful process, with each study illuminating new characteristics of materials including colour, light, reflectivity and materiality.

Woosley's final table is crafted from waterjet cut, bent aluminum, and painted with a glossy white top with a matte blue underside.

Sleek and shiny, yet still playful - we like this experimental, but ultimately functional piece.
