WAXING LYRICAL

It's a simple concept, but the result is beautifully poetic. Plus we bet the actual process of creating these works isn't as simple as it seems either.

The above are images of 'Ecdysis' - a series of objects covered, or cast in wax by Berlin-based artist designer Judith Seng.

Freezing usage and time, merging matter and surface, Seng has used just wax and larch wood to create fragile shadows of small pots, and larger block-like slabs of furniture.

Concerned with projects that aim to "...uncover and provoke new opportunities and perspectives on the existing environment", Seng studied Product and Process Design at the University of the Arts in Berlin whilst also working for designers like Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in Paris.

Back in 2005 she set up her own studio, and since then, her work has been exhibited worldwide; including the Caroussel du Louvre in Paris, MOMA in Berlin, Tokyo Art Museum and Post Design Gallery in Milan.

Seng has a great portfolio of equally subtle work which you ought to check out if you like this - we 're also very taken with her gently graduated 'Trift' series...
