Design collective, Dutch Invertuals presented their new work during Dutch Design Week 2010 at the end of last month.
Their group exhibition, ‘Matter of Time’, was initiated and curated by Invertual member Wendy Plomp and involved 600-year-old wood; oak wood which once served as the foundation for the Eindhoven city entrance.
The show took place at design agency Edhv - an industrial environment which was transformed by the Invertuals into an extraordinary exhibition space.
Through their experiments and research, the Invertuals translated the value and symbolism of the historic oak wood into contemporary design projects, and it was the concept of time and the aesthetics of the material itself which inspired the results.
The wood was revised by old crafting techniques, its transience visualized, and a second life bestowed upon it as a foundation - with a transformation into time pieces, sound images, interaction instruments and sensorial objects being the final works.
