SB-Cuatro by Sofie Brünner is a modern interpretation of the classic Scandinavian timber chair set to launch at the Stockholm Furniture Fair this week.
Deliberately a little reminiscent of iconic wooden chairs like Hans Wegner’s Y-Chair or Børge Mogensen’s J39 in form, Brünner's version plays with more contemporary lines in its shape as well as in a playful weave on the seat and back.
Brünner's design background is chiefly a textile one - and so this inclusion allowed her to explore and challenge traditional furniture seat weaves as well as the physical construction of the piece.
"The actual frame of the chair is made in what seems like an impossible construction. Both legs, backrest and seat all connect in one central joint and this is one of the features that makes the chair unusual and unique.
Most of the chair seems to be floating with no actual support...[but] the joints are small masterpieces on their own in the way they fit together as in an intricate puzzle." she says.
SB-Cuatro is made from natural materials - american ash wood and paper yarn - whilst the shades of yarn used tones and contrasts nicely with the timber frame.
